Ninth Letter, an interdisciplinary arts & literary journal produced by the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana’s graduate creative writing program in collaboration with its school of art & design since 2004, is partnering with the nine-year-old Pygmalion Music Festival to launch the Pygmalion Literary Festival. The first Pygmalion Festival will take place in Champaign and Urbana’s downtown areas on Sept. 27-28. The festival’s mission is, according to its organizers, to “showcase writers of national acclaim from the Midwest and beyond alongside well-established musicians.”
Readings and literary events will alternate with musical performances in local bars and restaurants throughout the weekend. The 2013 Pygmalion Literary Festival will feature headline authors Dan Chaon, Amelia Gray, Roxane Gay, and James Greer, as well as 10 regional authors. The festival, which will be free to the public, is co-sponsored by the University of Illinios Carr Reading Series and HOBART: Another Literary Journal.
