Simon & Schuster celebrated its 100th anniversary this week with back-to-back centenary events in New York City.
On April 8, the publisher hosted 30 authors for its star-studded "Author! Author!" event, an evening of readings, stories, and memories held at the Town Hall auditorium in Manhattan. Participating S&S authors included Fredrik Backman, Judy Blume, Jennifer Egan, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Sanjay Gupta, Zakiya Dalila Harris, Walter Isaacson, Kiese Laymon, Susan Orlean, Jason Reynolds, Safiya Sinclair, Brad Thor, Colm Tóibín, Jeannette Walls, Jesmyn Ward, and Bob Woodward.
The following evening, April 9, the publisher held its official centennial celebration at Chelsea Piers, which featured remarks from S&S president and CEO Jonathan Karp and Richard Sarnoff of KKR. The event was attended by authors, editors, agents, booksellers, publicists, sales reps, and a host of other publishing professionals and book enthusiasts, and featured a lively dance floor (the dancing portion of the evening was kicked off by "You're So Vain" by Carly Simon, daughter of S&S co-founder Richard Simon.) Early in the day, New York City mayor Eric Adams declared April 9 "Simon Schuster Day."
