Simon & Schuster Canada has announced it is launching Scribner Canada.
The new Scribner imprint, which echoes the longstanding imprint in the U.S., will offer literary fiction and nonfiction from Canada, as well as works from abroad and in translation. The press will not dedicate an editor to oversee the imprint, but will be run as a collective with various editors contributing to the list. The first titles will be published this fall and will include the novel We Spread by Iain Reid and The Long Road Home by McGill University professor Debra Thompson, who is writing about her family history and Black identity.
“I’ve long admired Scribner US and their venerable list of authors, and am excited to launch this new imprint that will complement and support our existing local publishing program, with its numerous bestsellers," said Kevin Hanson, president and publisher, Simon & Schuster Canada. "The creation of Scribner Canada will broaden our publishing reach, bring new voices to readers, and grow our already stellar list of authors."
