Kevin Hearne, author of the Iron Druid Chronicles series, among other titles, has launched Horned Lark Press, a new Canadian publishing house focused on publishing shorter works of fantasy and science fiction, particularly novellas.

In a release, the company said that it is "looking to fill a niche that sorely needs filling,” noting that it is seeking books that are "anti-monarchist, post-capitalist, decolonized, and anti-authoritarian in general," while avoiding military sci-fi "copaganda.” The press is currently open to queries from previously published authors and will open to general submissions in the spring of 2025.

The first four books available from the press are The Squirrel on the Train and The Purloined Poode, both by Hearne, as well as the novella anthologies Canines and Cocktails and Death and Honey, both of which feature works from Delilah S. Dawson and Chuck Wendig in addition to Hearne’s own. Horned Lark's next book is Coyote Run by Lilith Saintcrow, part of a forthcoming series called "Amazing Tales of Antifascist Action!,” which will feature authors writing pulpy, action-centered stories with an anti-fascist theme.
