Norwegian Novel Sells in Three Deals
Karen Havelin's Please Read This Leaflet Carefully, which will be published in the author's native Norway by Cappelen Damm in 2019, has sold in two other deals. Dottir Press (a recently launched feminist press in the U.S.) bought North American rights to the novel, while Dead Ink acquired it in the U.K. The novel follows a single mother who suffers from Endometriosis (an often painful condition in which the tissue lining the inside of the uterus grows outside the uterus), and tries to be completely self-reliant.
Spanish Women's Fiction Sells in Italy
The historical women's fiction novel, Geraniums on the Balcony by Carolina Pobla, has been sold to Italian publisher Garzanti. Literary Agency International Editors controls rights to the book, and sold it to originating publisher Ediciones Maeva. The book is set in the beginning of the 20th Century and follows a man, an engineer, and a woman, a young aspiring singer, whose paths cross before the start of the Spanish Civil War. The book is based on the lives of the author's grandparents, and was published in Spain last month.
Pet Book Sells in Several Territories
Understanding Animals: Philosophy for Dog Lovers and Cat Lovers by Lars Svendsen, which was originally published this past April in Norway, has sold to Klim (Denmark) and Reaktion Books (U.K.). The book looks to explain what your pets are thinking, using questions based in philosophy. Rights are controlled by Oslo Literary, and the originating publisher in Norway is Kagge.
