Italian Novel Moves to Spain
Jumping From High Places by Chiara Parenti, which was originally published by Garzanti in Italy in June, has sold to Ediciones B in Spain. Agent Vicki Satlow controls all rights. The novel centers around Sole, whose last words from her best friend are for her to do one thing that terrifies her everyday. So Sole does just that for the next 100 days, and challenges herself to live without fear.
German Novel Sells in Flurry of Deals
The debut novel German House by Annette Hess has recently sold to HarperOne where the HarperCollins division bough world English rights. Other deals have been signed by Planeta (Spain), Actes Sud (France), Sextante (Brazil), and Atlas Contact (Holland). An auction is underway in Italy, and offers have come in from other territories, as well. Originating publisher Ullstein Buchverlage in Germany controls all rights for the title and will publish in September. Set in the 1960s during the Auschwitz trial, the novel follows a woman who is hired to translate witness testimonies and starts to question her own family's past during the war.
Christmas Tale Picks Up Sales
The Snow Sister: A Christmas Story by Maja Lunde (author of the bestseller The History of Bees) is an illustrated story about Christmas told in 24 chapters, focused on a boy whose sister died around Christmas time. Rights have sold in Germany, Denmark and Hungary, and the book will be published in all territories this fall. Oslo Literary controls all rights, and Kagge is the originating Norwegian publisher.
