Before one of its biggest acquisitions from last year's London Book Fair is even tested in the market, Random House has signed the same authors to a major new deal.
The Tools, which will come out on May 29 in multiple countries, is a self-help book, pitched in the vein of The Secret, that Random House bought for over $2 million at last year's fair. Now RH is bringing a bit of symmetry to its acquisition process, announcing in London that it has a new, currently untitled, book by the authors of The Tools, Barry Michels and Phil Stutz.
Julie Grau at Spiegel & Grau is again the acquiring editor, taking world English, Spanish and German rights from Jennifer Rudolph Walsh at William Morris Endeavor. RH would not comment on the advance, and a pub date for the new book has not been set.
The authors are a pair of therapists on the speed dials of some of Hollywood's most powerful players. RH said this book "offers more tools that break the most common patterns--demoralizaton, addiction, paralysis, and victimization-- that hold us back from realizing our full potential and living happy and satisfying lives."
