HarperCollins CEO Brian Murray will join hundreds of publishing professionals as a featured speaker at the 12th annual Jaipur BookMark (JBM) publishing conference, running January 30 through February 3, at Hotel Clarks Amer in Jaipur, India. Murray will participate in a session titled "Scanning the Horizon."
The five-day event, held concurrently with the Jaipur Literature Festival, focuses on translations and rights sales. Nobel Prize–winning economics Esther Duflo, author of Poor Economics for Kids, illustrated by Cheyenne Olivier, will open the conference with "Green Shoots of Big Ideas," a session exploring how to address the topic of economics with children.
This year's program highlights Tamil publishing, featuring a keynote by scholar A.R. Venkatachalapathy, and sessions marking the 30th anniversary of Kalachuvadu Publications. Programming also includes sessions on artificial intelligence, gaming narratives, and inclusive children's publishing. Jaipur BookMark director Namita Gokhale said that this year's event "engages with both local and global themes within the publishing ecosystem."
The conference will release also its annual Rights Catalogue, showcasing 58 titles from 31 Indian publishers across 10 languages.
The Royal Norwegian Embassy continues as the Country Partner. "Norway has been the Country Partner at Jaipur BookMark since its inception more than a decade ago," said Ambassador May-Elin Stener. "JBM's focus on the publishing industry and on translations is an important aspect of literature."
As for this year's Jaipur Literature Festival, the event will feature more than 300 speakers, including such U.S.-based writers as André Aciman and Benjamin Moser. The five-day event will also include music performances and a festival bookshop featuring works by participating authors.
