Baltimore Comic-con
This year’s Baltimore Comic-con kicks off a two-day show, held this weekend September 8 & 9 at the Baltimore Convention Center. This year’s BCC will feature a tribute to the late Mike Wieringo; in addition to such guest artists as Frank Cho, Jim Lee, Mike Mignola, Jimmy Palmiotti and Paul Pope. And this year’s Harvey Awards, named after legendary Mad and EC Comics editor Harvey Kurtzman, will be held Saturday night, Sept. 8; hosted by Kyle Baker and featuring Sergio Aragones as the keynote speaker.

Howl! Fest 2007

The Howl! Festival of East Village Arts, an annual celebration of art, culture and the long history of cultural troublemaking on the Lower East Side, will be held from September 5-9 at various venues in the East Village and Lower East Side. This year’s Howl! Festival will also debut The Carl Solomon Book Expo, a small press festival (named after the Beat legend who inspired Allen Ginsberg’s seminal poem, Howl!) featuring online comics collective Act-I-Vate, World War III Illustrated and the Jack Kirby Museum among other comics organizations. In addition the festival is hosting The Comics Thinktank , a panel focused on “the potential of comics as art and literature.” The Panel will be held on Sept. 6th at 6:30p.m. at the Rapture Café (200 Ave. A). Panelists include PWCW’s Calvin Reid, Dr. Hillary Chute, Vertigo executive editor Karen Berger, artists R. Sikoryak and Gene Colan, historian John Benson and the moderator, comics artist James Romberger.

SPX 2007 Guest List

Matt Wagner, Jeff Smith, and Kim Dietch have been added as guests at this year's Small Press Expo (SPX) in Baltimore on October 12th through 13th. Other guests include Bill Griffith, Gilbert Hernandez, and Rutu Modan. More guests will be announced over the next few weeks. More information about SPX can be found at the event’s website.

New Shows On Kid’s WB!
Kids’ WB! will be broadcasting two new animated series this fall, “The Spectacular Spider-Man” and “World of Quest,” an action-comedy based on a Komikwerks comic book series by Jason Kruse. More information can be found at the Kids’ WB! website.

Back to Press For Anita Blake Vol. 1
Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter: Guilty Pleasure Vol. 1 from Marvel has sold out through Diamond, and Marvel is going back to press on the book. The book has also appeared for two straight months (currently its at #5) on PW’s Comics Bestseller list. The hardcover graphic novel is a comics adaptation of the Anita Blake prose novels by Laurell K. Hamilton. The second printing will have two variant covers, which will only be available at comic shops.
