2008 Harvey Awards
The nominees for the 2008 Harvey Awards have been announced. The awards are named after Harvey Kurtzman, acclaimed cartoonist, writer, editor and founder of Mad magazine. A full list of the nominees can be found at the Harvey Awards’ website. Ballots are available on the website; anyone involved in a creative capacity in the comics industry can vote. The ballots are due by August 15, 2008. The Harvey Awards will be presented during the Baltimore Comic-Con on Saturday 27.

PW The Beat: Didio, Heroes Con
Over at The Beat, Heidi MacDonald gathers comments about DC Comics executive editor Dan Didio and puts an end to the rumors about his future at DC. Heidi also offers links to coverage of the Heroes Con as well as offering her own take on the show, held this past weekend in Charlotte, N.C.

EW’s 100 Best Books
Entertainment Weekly has posted their pics of the best 100 books published from 1983 to 2008. The list includes several comics’ titles. Maus by Art Spieglman, Watchman by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, Sandman by Neil Gaiman, Jimmy Corrigan by Chris Ware, and Fun Home by Alison Bechdel are all included on the list.

Brian K. Vaughan at Midtown Comics
Acclaimed comics writer Brian K. Vaughan will be signing books at the Grand Central Midtown Comics on Thursday June 26th from 5 to 7 PM. Vaughan is the writer of such critically acclaimed comics series as Y: The Last Man, Ex-Machina, and Pride of Baghdad. The store is located at 459 Lexington Avenue at 45th Street. Guests at NYAF
The New York Anime Festival has announced that Yoshitaka Amano will be a guest of Honor at this years show. Yoshitaka Amano is an artist who has worked on Final Fantasy, Sandman, and Vampire Hunter D. He joins other Vampire Hunter D talents, Hideyuki Kikuchi, the author, and Kevin Leahy, the translator; all of them are sponsored by Dark Horse. NYAF will be held at the Jacob Javits Center on September 26th through 28th. More information can be found at the NYAF website.

Vanguard at SDCC
Vanguard, a publisher of art-book biographies on cartoonists and illustrators, will celebrate their 15th anniversary at this year's San Diego Comic Con, which will be held July 24-27. Vanguard will have various talents appearing at their booth, number 1607, including Jim Steranko, Neal Adams, Paul Gulacy, and Michael Golden. They will be signing and sketching. Transfuzion at Wizard World Chicago
Transfuzion Publishing will debut two new titles at the Wizard World of Chicago: Worlds of H.P. Lovecraft and The Ripper Legacy. The Transfuzion booth will be located in the Artist’s Alley of the show at tables 4600-4602. Free comics will be given out at the table, including titles such as Deadwood, Seeker, and Saint Germaine. Don Parent at Wizard World Chicago
The Betty and Veronica artist and writer Dan Parent will be signing and sketching at the Chicago Wizard World Convention on June 26-29. Parent will be at booth 4008B in Artists Alley. More information can be found at the Archie website.
