In a world of uncertainty, there are some things you can count on: sunburns, stubbed toes, Bennifer drama. Thankfully, among the happier certainties are a fall season stacked with eagerly awaited books and this preview issue to help guide you through it. We’ve got your back—whether you remember to put sunscreen on it is up to you.

A few months ago, we invited publishers to submit information on titles publishing between Aug. 1, 2024, and Jan. 31, 2025. Our editors then wrangled the thousands of submissions into what you’ll find here: PW’s picks for the noteworthy books of fall in 13 categories. Each category has a top-10 list and a longlist of titles you’ll want on your radar.

As always, the selections run the gamut from heavy hitters taking another swing for the fences to rookies with a certain special something about them. (There’s also a database of all submissions you can browse at publishersweekly.com/previews.)

Whatever else fall has in store, it’s shaping up to be a great one for book lovers. Remember to check back for our children’s preview on July 8 and our comics and graphic novels preview on July 15.

Okay, that’s enough from me. On to the good stuff!
