Voting for the 10th annual Children’s and Teen Choice Book Awards will extend through the end of Children’s Book Week, on May 7, giving kids and teens an extra opportunity to vote online for their favorite titles. The 28 finalists fall into four categories, ranging from picture books to young adult novels. As in years past, the children's finalists were selected by children nationwide in a process overseen by the International Literacy Association. Teens nominated their favorite books of the year at TeenReads.com to determine the finalists for the Teen Choice Book Award.
In addition to the new online voting hub, managed by DOGObooks, the Children’s Book Council has created a number of digital materials, including printable group ballots for classroom voting, new shelf talkers and slit cards for each award category, stickers, and activity sheets. Teachers, librarians, and booksellers are encouraged to host voting events as part of their Children’s Book Week festivities. Ballot booths are being tested in three New York City locations: Bank Street Bookstore, St. Brigid School, and Community Bookstore.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony on May 31 at BookExpo in New York City, in conjunction with the ABC Silent Art Auction. Gene Luen Yang, the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature, will host the event.
