Guadalajara 2019: India Rights Catalog and Participating Publishers

This year, the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL), running from November 30 to December 8, hosts India as the Guest of Honor.

To mark this occasion, a rights catalog is available for 235 titles from 31 Indian publishers. The catalog offers full annotations; thumbnails; copyright information; and contacts for rights, permissions, and licenses. The genres include literary fiction; nonfiction; biographies; Gandhian literature; children’s and young adult titles; science, technology, and medical books; as well as books of popular science, Indian art and culture, and more.

"Since translation from Indian languages to Spanish and other foreign languages directly has proved to be a major stumbling block in the travel of Indian language books, we have included some standard English translations of Indian language books for the same," says Neera Jain, director of the National Book Trust, India. "It is hoped that this documentation will prove to be a catalyst for business matchmaking among Indian, Mexican and other Latin and other international publishers participating at Guadalajara International Book Fair, 2019."

This year, more than 100 professionals from India are participating in the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL), offering books in a wide array of genres, from biography and history, to fiction and religion, to culture and cooking. With such a vast and diverse publishing ecosystem—not to mention a half-day time difference—finding the right contacts can be difficult. Nearly 40 publishing houses are being represented by National Book Trust, India through entries in the rights catalog, Bookstore of India Pavilion, and the Business Tables of India Pavilion offered to the Indian Publishers who are participating in FIL.
