Summit to Publish Anthony Hopkins Memoir
Summit Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, will publish Sir Anthony Hopkins’s memoir We Did OK, Kid on November 4. The book was acquired and will be edited by Summit SVP and publisher Judy Clain.
According to Summit, the memoir will explore the actor’s film career, including his roles in The Silence of the Lambs, The Father, and The Remains of the Day, as well as his childhood in Wales, his stage career, and his battles with addiction. A collection of personal photographs will be interspersed throughout as well.
“There is a photograph I keep on my phone of my father and me on the beach when I was a child. I often tell that boy: ‘we did ok, kid.’ I wonder how a boy from Wales, the son of a baker, got here,” Hopkins said in a statement. “My entire life is a great mystery. This book is my story.”
“What an extraordinary honor and privilege to publish the long-awaited Autobiography of Sir Anthony Hopkins,” Clain added. “He has written a book that will be a classic. His soul is evident in every word. He is an inspiration.”
Rights have been sold in over 20 territories, with S&S UK, Australia, and India publishing the book in tandem with the U.S. release. An audiobook of the memoir narrated by Hopkins will also be released.
