ComicBlitz Adds IDW; Lowers Subscription Fees
ComicBlitz, a comics and graphic novel subscription service, has reached an agreement to make hundreds of comics from IDW Publishing available to its subscribers, in addition to lowering its subscription fees.
For a limited time ComicBlitz is lowering its unlimited access subscription free to $7.99 per month from $9.99; and the service is also adding a new basic level of access for $3.99.
IDW will start by releasing 125 issues of such titles as Transformers, My Little Pony, Judge Dredd, Star Trek and many others. In the coming months IDW will also add Danger Girl, Angry Birds, Samurai Jack, Jem and The Hoograms and 30 Days of Night.
IDW Publishing president and COO, Greg Goldstein said, “ComicBlitz’s business model is a smart, easy way to discover your new favorite comic and we hope that their subscribers will enjoy what we have to offer.”
ComicBlitz offers access to nearly 5,000 comics and graphic novel titles for a monthly subscription fee. While the service does not offer any comics from the Big Two—Marvel and DC—ComicBlitz features a wide variety of works from popular independent and small press publishers. Among the publishers offering access to their comics on ComicBlitz are Dynamite, Abrams ComicArts, Action Lab, Graphic Universe, Valiant, Top Cow, Zenescope, Capstone and others.
For a limited time the service is lowering its unlimited access subscription fee to $7.99 from $9.99. The service also plans to add a new basic level of access for $3.99 per month, which would give a subscriber unlimited access to any ten comics of their choice. The new basic level will also offer offline reading, rating, reviewing, a bookshelf and social media sharing.
ComicBlitz CEO Jordan Plosky offered an update on the service during a podcast interview at the recent New York Comic Con.
On the addition of IDW to ComicBlitz, Plosky said, “We feel that money should never be the reason for someone not being able to enjoy comics. We love the medium of comics, and want to be able to share it with anyone interested. By creating different price points, we can appeal to a larger audience, and their needs.”
