Andrew Carnegie Medals Shortlist Announced
ALA unveils shortlist for 2017 Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction
The American Library Association has announced the six books shortlisted for the Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction, which honor the previous year's best fiction and nonfiction books written for adult readers and published in the United States. The two medal winners will be announced at the Reference and User Services Association's Book and Media Awards event at the ALA Midwinter Meeting in Atlanta, Ga. on January 22, 2017.
The nonfiction shortlist includes:
- The Firebrand and the First Lady: Portrait of a Friendship: Pauli Murray, Eleanor Roosevelt, and the Struggle for Social Justice by Patricia Bell-Scott (Knopf)
- Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City by Matthew Desmond (Crown)
- Blood at the Root: A Racial Cleansing in America by Patrick Phillips (Norton)
The fiction shortlist includes:
- Moonglow by Michael Chabon (Harper)
- Swing Time by Zadie Smith (Penguin)
- The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead (Doubleday)
