SoI Unveils Programming for MoCCA Arts Fest 2015
Boasting new exhibition and programming venues in Manhattan’s Chelsea art district, the Society of Illustrators announced the programming for the 2015 MoCCA Arts Festival, to be held April 11-12. This year’s guest artists include Scott McCloud, Raina Telgemeier, Annie Geotzinger, Julia Wertz, Aline-Kominsky Crumb and many others.
For the first time the annual indie comics festival will be held at Center 548 on West 22nd Street and all panels and programming will be held at the nearby High Line Hotel at 180 10th Avenue at 20th Street. Up until last year, the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art Festival, which focuses on independent, self-published and small press comics and graphic novels, was held at the historic Lexington Avenue Armory on the East Side. The MoCCA Arts Fest Kicks off April 6 with Comic and Cartoon Art Week, a week of events leading into the festival.
Programming includes public interviews and panels,“Comics and Disability,” “Plagiarism as Practice,” and a kids-focused version of R. Siloryak’s Carousel performance series. Moderators include MoMA curator Laura Hoptman; avant-garde poet and Ubuweb founder Kenneth Goldsmith, and New York Times art director Alexandra Zsigmond among many others. Programming was organized by MoCCA Arts Festival Programming Director Bill Kartalopoulos.
Admission to MoCCA is $5 per day. Tickets are available via the SoI website at Societyillustrators.org or at the door at Center 548 the weekend of the MoCCA Art Fest and The High Line Hotel.
