NLI Acquires Valmadonna Trust Library Collection

The National Library of Israel (NLI), located in Jerusalem, bought a collection of more than 13,000 rare and unique Hebrew works known as the Valmadonna Trust Library in a private sale arranged by Sotheby’s on January 18.

Compiled mostly by British diamond merchant  Jack V. Lunzer, the books and manuscripts chart the spread of Hebrew printing and the global dissemination of Jewish culture. The acquisition marks an important addition to the NLI’s collection, and the works will be housed in the organization's new landmark building, designed by architects Herzog & de Meuron, due to open to the public in 2020.
