Barton will leave his role as managing director of Oxford University Press’s academic division and leave OUP in September 2017.
Of his departure, Barton said: “OUP is a remarkable institution and it has been a rare privilege to work alongside some of the finest people in the industry and to publish some of the most influential researchers and teachers in the world.”
