Correction: Simpson Family Literary Project Winner
In a partnership between the Lafayette Library and Learning Center Foundation and the University of California, Berkeley, English Department, a prize of $50,000 for fiction has been launched. The winner has not yet been announced.
Additionally, Joyce Carol Oates has been announced as writer in residence in spring of 2018.
The prize and residency are part of the newly launched Simpson Family Literary Project, which recognizes writers who have “earned a distinguished reputation and the approbation and gratitude of readers.” The prize, named after philanthropists Barclay and Sharon Simpson, is part of an initiative to promote educational outreach into schools and libraries and support authors.
