MoCCA Arts Fest 2017 Unveils Guests and Programming
The Society of Illustrators announced programming and guests for the 2017 MoCCA Arts Festival, an annual festival of indie and self-published comics and graphic novels, to be held April 1-2 at the Metropolitan West event space on W. 46th Street in Manhattan.
Guests of Honor at this year’s MoCCA Arts Fest includes such acclaimed cartoonists as Becky Cloonan (Southern Cross), Cliff Chiang (Paper Girls), Gene Luen Yang (American Born Chinese), David Lloyd (V for Vendetta), and French comics artist Blutch.
Panels will include such artists as David Mazzucchelli (Asterios Polyp), Rutu Modan (Exit Wounds), Whit Taylor (The Nib) and the mother-daughter team of Françoise Mouly and Nadja Spiegelman (RESIST!,), among others.
The programming schedule is listed online and has been organized by Best American Comics series editor Bill Kartalopoulos. Panels will include “Reading Without Walls: Diversity in Comics” with Gene Luen Yang, Damian Duffy, Hazel Newlevant, and Whit Taylor; moderated by Jonathan W. Gray on Saturday; and a conversation between David Mazzucchelli and Blutch Moderated by Bill Kartalopoulos. On Sunday cartoonist Becky Cloonan (who designed this year’s MoCCA poster) will be interviewed on stage by cartoonist Nathan Fox.
The MoCCA Arts Festival is organized by the Society of Illustrators.
The annual indie comics festival attracts more than 400 exhibitors to the main venue at the Metropolitan West event space at 639 West 46th Street. Programming will be held a short distance way at the Ink48 Hotel on 653 11th Avenue at 48th street. Admission to the MoCCA Arts Festival is $5 each day.
