Cronon, Wilner, Jackson Win Society of American Historians Prizes

Three prizes honoring historical writing of literary merit were awarded by the Society of American Historians at Columbia University this week at the annual dinner at the Century Association in New York. The 10th annual Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr. Award for distinguished writing in American history of enduring public significance, given jointly with the Roosevelt Institute, was presented to William Cronon. The 60th annual Francis Parkman Prize was awarded to Joe Jackson for his biography, Black Elk: The Life of an American Visionary. The 57th annual Allan Nevins Prize was awarded to Isaiah Lorado Wilner for his dissertation, “Raven Cried for Me: Narratives of Transformation on the Northwest Coast of America.”
