Skybound’s Sean Mackiewicz to Publish ‘Gasolina’ in Fall 2017
Sean Mackiewicz, editorial director of Skybound Entertainment, the Image Comics imprint that publishes Robert Kirkman’s bestelling Walking Dead graphic novels, is publishing his own series, Gasolina, to be released September 2017 by Image/Skybound.
Written by Mackiewicz with artists Niko Walters and Matt Lopes, Gasolina is a horror-crime thriller set in contemporary Mexico amidst the carnage of the drug cartels. Amalia and Randy, a newlywed couple journeying to Mexico from the US, become the unlikely leaders in a violent fight against the rise of a new drug cartel that uses inhuman tactics to ignite a monstrous war against Mexico.
The first issue of the series will be released September 20, 2017 by Skybound. The imprint has also released a book trailer launching the new series on YouTube. The issue is available for preorder and on twitter Mackiewicz is @seanmackiewicz.
Founded at Image Comics in 2010 under the direction of Robert Kirkman, Skybound publishes such Kirkman series as The Walking Dead, Invincible and Outcast. Skybound Book collections are distributed to the book trade by Diamond Book Distributors.
Mackiewicz said that while he was switching to a creative role to write Gasolina, he is also putting his experience as editorial director of Skybound to work in service of the series. “Skybound is the most creatively stimulating environment I’ve ever experienced, so in creating this comic with Niko Walter, I’m putting to use everything I’ve learned from all the talented creators I’ve worked with.”
However, while Mackiewicz is excited to publish Gasolina, he also emphasized that he’s not quitting his day job.
