ComicMix and Planned Parenthood to Publish Comics Anthology
Planned Parenthood, the nonprofit general and reproductive health care provider, is teaming with comics news site and publisher ComicMix to publish Mine!, an anthology of comics that celebrate more than 100 years of Planned Parenthood, which was founded in 1916.
Edited by Joe Corallo and Molly Jackson, Mine! will feature work by more than 70 artists including such acclaimed comics creators as Jill Thompson, Gail Simone, Neil Gaiman, and Gerard Way. The book will be published in the fall 2017 and will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Planned Parenthood.
ComicMix will launch a Kickstarter campaign August 15 to raise $50,000 to fund the printing and distribution of Mine!.
Other artists that will contribute to the anthology are Amber Benson (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Mara Wilson (Where Am I Now?: True Stories of Girlhood and Accidental Fame), Mags Visaggio (Kim & Kim), Brittney Williams (Patsy Walker A.K.A. Hellcat!), and John Ostrander (Suicide Squad).
Corallo noted the importance of Planned Parenthood to comics creators, who are often freelancers without health insurance. He emphasized that comics artists “rely on the kind of access to healthcare that Planned Parenthood provides.”
Jackson said, “Planned Parenthood is a vital resource for women and men from all walks of life, providing needed health care and support to millions of people all over the world. We are proud to do whatever we can to bring attention to their amazing work.”
