French Graphic Novel Festival Returns to New York
The French Comics Association, a coalition of major French graphic novel publishers, has organized the second French Comics Framed, a festival celebrating Franco-Belgian comics artists to be held October 4-9 at a variety of locations during the city during New York Comic Con.
This year’s French Comics Framed will feature nine European comics artists featured during a week of events taking place during New York Comic Con. Artists taking part include Pénélope Bagieu, Brüno, Mathieu Lauffray, Patricia Lyfoung, Fabien Nury, Alexis Sentenac, El Torres, Valérie Vernay, and Zep.
The celebration includes panels, screenings and parties at the Javits Center, the Albertine Bookshop in the French Embassy on Fifth Avenue, Kinokuniya Booktore, New York Public Library and. Columbia University.

Highlights include a discussion on the upcoming IFC release of the film Death of Stalin, directed by Armando Ianucci and based on the French graphic novel by Fabien Nury. Clips of the film will be shown at the Javits Center along with discussion of the film and an appearance by the director.
PW Graphic Novels review editor Heidi MacDonald will moderate “European Invasion” featuring Zep and others. Pop Culture Classroom will moderate a YA panel featuring French artists Patricia Lyfoung and Valérie Vernay paired with American artists Scott Westerfeld, Ngozi Ukazu, and Nidhi Chanani. The FCA has organized “Bande Dessinée 101,” a panel of international cartoonist to be held at the New York Public Library.

As the third worldwide comics industry, we bring many years of literary heritage, from beloved characters like Astérix, Tintin and the Smurfs, to new original graphic novels.
