Boom! To Publish ‘Pandora’s Legacy’ Graphic Novel in Fall 2018
Based on a successful Kickstarter project, Pandora’s Legacy, an original graphic novel by writer Kara Leopard and artist team Kelly and Nicole Matthews, will be published in November by Boom! Studios.
In Pandora’s Legacy, a group of kids on a family vacation discover and break an old jar they find deep in the woods. Once the jar is opened, they discover that they’re descendants of the mythological Pandora, the woman that opened a famous box and released death and other evils into the world. It turns out that the Panagakos family—Charlie, Janet, and Trevor—have the legendary duty of protecting the famous “Pandora’s” box (it was really a jar); now that the jar has broken open, they have to capture the monsters that have escaped and save the rest of their family.
Leopard said the new graphic novel “combines my love for scary stories, mythology, and family. It's about younger siblings getting in over their heads. They have to rely on their own resources and knowledge to save the day...with the help of a possessed talking cat, of course.” The book also features a story with twins, drawn by an team of artist twins: “Kelly and Nichole are the perfect team to bring this world to life,” Leopard said.
The new graphic novel is based on a Kickstarter campaign for Pandora’s Box of Monsters, a illustrated field guide and beastiary listing the monsters contained in the legendary box, that raised nearly $8000 for its publication earlier this year.
Pandora’s Legacy will be published by KaBoom!, Boom! Studio’s children’s and YA graphic novel imprint.
