Toronto’s Kids’ Comic Shop, Little Island Comics, has Reopened
The Beguiling, Toronto’s preeminent comics book shop, announces the re-opening of Little Island Comics, a unique outlet that specializes in a wide array of graphic novels, manga and comics for children.
Claimed to be the “first and only” children’s comics shop by The Beguiling, Little Island Comics was forced to close when its parent shop moved from its original location in Toronto’s Mirvish Village to its new location on College Street.
Little Island reopened in March in an expanded space adjacent to The Beguiling's new location in Toronto’s Kensington Market neighborhood. The Beguiling’s new space has a gallery and events space which will be shared by the new Little Island store. Indeed since its launch in 2011, Little Island Comics has become a hub of activities around graphic novels including book launches and artist events.
Little Island Comics store manager Andrew Woodrow-Butcher said, “Little Island Comics responded to the public’s continuing need for specialized books shops as points of discovery, interaction, and creative community."
Beguiling owner Peter Kirkemoe, said “Little Island has proven to be a key part of The Beguiling’s business overall. I’m thrilled to once again devote space where kids and parents can learn, read and start loving comics. And we really missed giving our youngest customers the specific attention they deserve.”
