Boom! To Publish ‘Petals’ Graphic Novel in Fall 2018
Boom! Studios announced plans to publish Petals, a new hardcover middle grade graphic novel by writer and artist Gustavo Borges and colorist Cris Peter, that celebrates friendship, in fall 2018.
Petals is the story of a family of foxes working to survive a deadly and merciless winter. In the frantic process of gathering firewood, a young fox cub encounters a tall and peculiar bird wearing a top hat. The resulting story in this wordless original graphic novel strikes a deep and resonant chord on the nature of friendship and selflessness.
Borges said he was out to create “an emotional tale. With that emotion guiding me, it was a simple and obvious decision to approach this as a silent book with no dialogue. Petals has changed both my life and career for the better.”
Although aimed at younger readers, Boom! editor Whitney Leopard, said Petals is “a beautiful story that can be enjoyed by any reader, with deeper layers that older readers will appreciate and infused with beautiful imagery that the youngest of readers will treasure.”
