Putnam Acquires 'Maestra' for Seven Figures
Putnam has secured North American rights to L.S. Hilton’s Maestra, the first book in a planned trilogy of psychological thrillers, in a seven figure pre-empt. Editor Tara Singh Carlson acquired the three-book series from Mark Smith at U.K. publisher Zaffre, who took world rights to the novel, one of the biggest of the London Book Fair.
Amy Pascal has already optioned film rights to Maestra for her new production company, Pascal Pictures, in a deal by CAA.
Pitched as The Talented Mr. Ripley meets Gone Girl and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, the novel is about a London art auction house assistant who "finds herself fleeing for her life after identifying a forged painting," according to the publisher.
Zaffre has closed foreign rights deals in three territories, with offers out in 13 more. Putnam has set a spring 2016 hardcover publication date for the book.
