Harvey Awards Unveil New Categories, 2018 Nominations
Marking its 30th anniversary, the Harvey Awards, an annual event honoring excellence in comics and graphic novels, announced the nominations for the 2018 awards and unveiled a streamlined slate of new award categories.
Among the nominees are My Favorite Thing is Monsters by Emil Ferris (Book of the Year), Check Please: #Hockey by Ngozi Ukazu (Digital Book of the Year), Your Name by Makoto Shinkai and Ranmaru Kotone (Best Manga), and Flight of the Raven by Jean-Pierre Gibrat (Best European Book).

Named after the late Harvey Kurtzman, acclaimed cartoonist and founding editor of Mad magazine, The Harvey Awards will now consist of six awards categories reduced from more than 20 categories in the past. The categories include Book of the Year, Digital Book of the Year, Best Childrens/Young Adult Book, Best Adaptation from a Comic/Graphic Novel, Best Manga, and Best European Books.
Nominees were chosen by an invited slate of industry professionals. The winners will be chosen by the vote of industry professionals, who must apply to become voters. The awards will be presented at a ceremony to be held October 5 during New York Comic Con.,
The Harvey Awards were acquired by ReedPop, the organizer of New York Comic Con, in 2016 and moved from the Baltimore Comic Con to New York Comic Con.
