Doron Weber to Receive 2018 NBA Literarian Award
The National Book Foundation has announced that Doron Weber, v-p of programs and program director at the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, is the recipient of its 2018 Literarian Award for Outstanding Service to the American Literary Community. For more than two decades at Sloan, Weber has run the program for the Public Understanding of Science, Technology & Economics, which has provided tens of millions of dollars in grant money to a wide range of organizations and individuals, and through which Weber has helped commission, produce, and distribute media that connect the public with science in accessible and illuminating ways. The Literarian Award will be presented to Weber by Margot Lee Shetterly, author of the book Hidden Figures, which was supported by funding from Weber’s program at the Sloan Foundation, and also the source material for the Oscar-nominated film of the same name. Weber will receive the Literarian Award at the 69th National Book Awards Ceremony and Benefit Dinner on November 14 in New York City.
