Obituary: Agent Harriet Wasserman

Longtime literary agent Harriet Wasserman, who represented writers such as Saul Bellow, Reynolds Price, Oscar Hjuilos, and Alice McDermott, died on September 24. She was 81.

After starting at the Russell and Volkkening Literary Agency, Wasserman opened her own agency in 1980. She also wrote a memoir, Handsome Is, published by Fromm International in 1997. Ten years later, she closed her agency due to illness and amid accusations of mishandling royalties. Wasserman is survived by her sister and a niece.
