Comic-Con San Diego Announces 2019 Eisner Awards Nominations
Led by comics publishers Image and DC with 19 and 17 nominations respectively, Comic-on International announced nominations for the 2019 Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards, which honor the best work in comics and graphic novels.
Other publishers receiving multiple Eisner nominations include IDW and Lion Forge, each with 10, followed by First Second with 9, and Marvel and Dark Horse with 7 each.

Among the book-format Eisner nominations are Sabrina by Nick Drnaso (D&Q) and Bad Girls by Alex de Campi and Victor Santos (Gallery 13) both nominated for Best New Graphic Novel, Steven Seagle’s Get Naked anthology (Image) for Humor, The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang (First Second) in the Teens category, Action Comics: 80 Years of Superman Deluxe Edition, edited by Paul Levitz (DC) for Archival Projects, and Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction by Inio Asano (Viz Media) for manga in the international category.
Other book-format nominees include Monk! by Youssef Daoudi (First Second) in the Nonfiction category, and Berlin by Jason Lutes (D&Q), Girl Town by Carolyn Nowak (Top Shelf), and Young Frances by Hartley Lin (AdHouse Books), all nominated for best Graphic Novel Reprint.
Nominees in specialty categories include LAAB Magazine #0: Dark Matter, edited by Ronald Wimberley and Josh O’Neill (Beehive Books) for comics journalism, and Drawn to Purpose: American Women Illustrators and Cartoonists, by Martha H. Kennedy (University Press of Mississippi) for best comics-related book.
The Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards honor the best work in comics and graphic novel publishing released in the previous year. The Eisner Awards are presented each year at gala ceremony held during the San Diego Comic-Con International, held this year July 18-21.
