Wiley Acquires Knewton Courseware Assets

John Wiley & Sons has reached an agreement to acquire the assets of Knewton, a New York City-based provider of adaptive learning technology and customizable courseware. The deal is expected to close by May 31.

The acquisition includes Knewton’s Alta courseware, which features adaptative learning technology and offers Open Educational Resource content to more than 300 colleges and universities. Adaptative learning technology is the basis for a variety of customizable educational software and it can track student performance, identify a student’s strength’s and weaknesses, recommend teaching strategies and evaluate the learning process.

Wiley president and CEO Brian Napack described the Knewton team as “pioneers in digital and data-driven learning.” He said, “The Alta platform’s proven ability to drive outcomes at affordable price points is right on target with what the market is demanding.”
