DC Unveils New Young Reader Graphic Novels at ALA Annual Meeting
DC announced a list of more than 40 new graphic novels for middle grade and Young adult readers that will be released in 2020 and 2021.
The titles, artists and cover art for the forthcoming graphic novels were announced at the Book Buzz Panel held at the American Library Association Annual Meeting in Washington D.C.
The forthcoming titles are created by a host of notable middle grade and YA authors as well as notable veteran comics creators and feature such celebrated DC characters as Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman Among the writers working on the forthcoming titles are Mariko Tamaki, Melissa de la Cruz, Shannon and Dean Hale, Gene Luen Yang, and Ridley Pearson; as well as such artists as Thomas Pitilli, Dustin Nguyen, and Isaac Goodhart.
The list of forthcoming young reader graphic novels were announced at ALA the day after DC’s decision to restructure its publishing program into three age-specific labels and eliminate its recently launched Zoom and Ink young reader imprints. As part of the restructuring DC is closing its pioneering adult comics Vertigo imprint at the end of the year.
The newly announced books are standalone stories and are not part of the ongoing storylines of the comics being published in DC’s regular periodical continuity series. Among the forthcoming titles announced are Diana: Princess of theAmazons by Shannon and Dean Hale and illustrated by Victoria Ying (January 2020), DC Super Hero Girls: Powerless by Amy Wolfram and illustrated by Agnes Garbowska (March 2020), and Lost Carnival: A Dick Grayson Graphic Novel by Michael Moreci and illustrated by Sas Milledge (May 2020).
