Cundill History Prize Finalists Announced
University College London professor of German history Mary Fulbrook, Harvard professor and New Yorker staff writer Jill Lepore, and Julia Lovell, professor of modern China at Birkbeck College at the University of London, are the three finalists for the Cundill History Prize, administered by McGill University, which honors a work of history each year.. Mary Fulbrook’s Reckonings: Legacies of Nazi Persecution and the Quest for Justice reckons with the lingering aftermath of the Holocaust; Jill Lepore’s These Truths: A History of the United States with the origins and rise of a divided nation, from 1492 to the present; and Julia Lovell’s Maoism: A Global History with Mao’s impact on China, and the world. The three historians will be awarded $10,000 each, and are now vying for the grand prize, which raises the reward for the winner to $75,000.
