DC, Warner Bros Plan DC FanDome Virtual Fan Fest
DC and Warner Bros announced plans to host DC FanDome, a global virtual fan event on August 22, 2020 PDT, which will offer online access to wide variety of DC comics and creators, WB TV/film cast members, DC news, and other virtual experiences accessible for 24 hours.
The international DC fan event will be available in 10 languages (among them Italian, French, Portuguese, and Korean) and include programming aimed a specific countries.
Creators and cast members of the DC/WB TV series and films, including Aquaman, Batman, Black Lightning, StarGils, the Justice League SnyderCut, Stargirl, Pennyworth, Teen Titans, Watchmen and much more, will all be available online to fans.
The DC FanDome will also allow fans to upload fan art based on DC heroes as well as photos of themselves cosplaying as their favorite DC superheroes. The FanDome site is organized around a number virtual areas, including the Hall of Heroes, which will allow fans to see programming, games, online panels and content from films and TV in several languages. There’s also the DC
WatchVerse, for viewing films and other footage, the DC YouVerse, featuring user-generated content, DC KidsVerse family-oriented content that’s also available at DCkidsfanDome.com, and DC InsiderVerse, which offers a video featuring DC publisher Jim Lee (who also happens to be one of DC’s most popular artists), who is also president of DC-based film production.
The global virtual event will provide access to variety experiences around DC comics, TV shows, games and films. And look for the second annual celebration of Blerds—Black pop culture nerds—with the newly launched Blerb & Boujee House in the DC FanDome, which will allow Blerds, LatinxGeeks, to gather and party.
It’s unclear whether this event is meant to replace the San Diego Comic-Con, which has been canceled because of the pandemic, leaving fans and publishers wondering what will replace the mega-con as a place for fans to connect with comics creators.
“There is no fan like a DC fan,” said Warner Bros chair and CEO Ann Sarnoff, and she explained why. “For more than 85 years, the world has turned to DC’s inspiring heroes and stories to lift us up and entertain us, and this massive, immersive digital event will give everyone new ways to personalize their journey through the DC Universe without lines, without tickets and without boundaries. With DC FanDome, we’re able to give fans from around the world an exciting and unparalleled way to connect with all their favorite DC characters, as well as the incredible talent who bring them to life on the page and screen.”
