Fundraiser Aims to Help Beirut Publishers
Bill Kennedy, a U.K. industry consultant, is leading a £100,000 GoFundMe fundraiser to help those in the publishing community in Beirut affected by the blast that devastated the city on August 4.
Beirut is one of the main publishing centers in the Arab-speaking world and home to a significant number of writers, editors, publishers and distributors. The blast, coupled with the ongoing pandemic and an economic crash, has left many in the publishing community in desperate need.
"The devastation following the August 4th blast and the shockwave which wreaked havoc throughout Beirut will continue to cause major distress for many months to come among those who work for companies in Beirut which are known to the international publishing community," said Kennedy. "Hence, it is critically important that this remains in our minds when the catastrophe drops down priorities in the international news agenda."
