Little Free Library and Literati Co-Sponsor Literacy Project
Little Free Library and Literati are partnering to serve under-represented communities in Austin, Tex, where Literati is headquartered. The nonprofit organization promoting literacy and the subscription book club company are cosponsoring five special-edition Little Free Library-branded boxes containing books and also donating gently used books to the volunteer stewards of 10 existing LFL boxes in the Austin area.
The special edition Literati-LFL boxes are painted in Literati’s signature teal hue and feature a black stenciled hot-air balloon. A teal window cling on the door reads “Literati Kids Edition: Find children’s books inside!” The existing LFL boxes that are part of this effort to boost literacy in low-income neighborhoods will also display the teal “Literati Kids Edition” window cling. One of the special edition boxes has already been set up in central Austin, and the others will be installed this fall.
LFL and Literati hope to expand this program nationwide following the pilot project in Austin.
