B&N Book Club Picks Rumaan Alam’s ‘Leave the World Behind’
Novelist Rumaan Alam’s new book Leave the World Behind has been chosen by the Barnes & Noble Book Club as its latest monthly selection. B&N is releasing a special edition of the book and hosting a Live virtual event with the author on Oct. 27.
Alam, whose 2016 novel Rich and Pretty was chosen for B&N’s Discover Program, will be interviewed by bestselling novelist Laura Lippman during an exclusive virtual book event to be held on October 27 at 7pm EST on the B&N Facebook page. Readers can join the discussion on social media under the hashtag #BNBookClub.
Alam said, “I’ve been extremely lucky to have the support of Barnes & Noble and its booksellers throughout my career. I could not be more thrilled to find my third novel is a Barnes & Noble Book Club pick.”
In Alam’s new book, a white family from Brooklyn rents a secluded vacation home in the Hampton’s for the summer. But their vacation is disrupted when the African American family that owns the house shows up unannounced after a black out in the city forces them to seek refuge in the home alongside their grudging renters.
B&N v-p, bookstore Jackie De Leo said, “Rumaan Alam’s writing is striking, smart and brilliant. His new book Leave the World Behind is atmospheric and provocative, painting a familial picture that soon devolves into cinematic catastrophe. This is a striking novel that will leave you looking at your own world in a different way.”
