Scribner’s Kathy Belden Promoted to Editorial Director
Scribner publisher Nan Graham and editor-in-chief Colin Harrison jointly announced that Kathy Belden, executive editor at Scribner since 2015, has been promoted to editorial director.
In a joint statement, Graham and Harrison cited the ways that Belden has “transformed the Scribner list,” noting in particular the books of such authors as National Book Award winner Jesmyn Ward and Kiese Laymon. Their statement also cites Belden’s introduction of “many new voices” including such authors as Mitchell Jackson, Pete Beatty and Sarah Smarsh, author of the National Book Award Finalist Heartland. Belden’s authors also include such noted novelists as Lisa See, Tom Perrotta, and John Edgar Wideman.
The statement cited Belden’s “advocacy for the books edited by her colleagues; her mentorship of younger staff and counsel to older; her work to make systems better serve our staff and authors; her commitment and leadership in all matters involving diversity, equity, and inclusion.”
