Bestselling YA Author Jason Reynolds Will Host 2020 National Book Awards
Jason Reynolds, bestselling young adult author and current National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature, has been chosen to host the 71st National Book Awards ceremony, and to host the NBA’s annual Teen Press Conference.
Reynolds will serve as the master of ceremonies at the National Book Awards ceremony, to be held online this year on November 18 due to the pandemic. In addition, in partnership with the Miami Book Fair, Reynolds will also host the annual Teen Press Conference for middle and high school students, which will also be held online on November 16.
Reynolds said, “to be at the forefront of ushering in the celebration of my peers would’ve been a gift at any point in my career. But to do so during this complicated time is nothing short of an honor.”
The wildly popular young adult author will announce the 2020 NBA winners in the categories of Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, Translated Literature, and Young People’s Literature. In addition the ceremony will also include the presentation of two lifetime achievement awards, to novelist Walter Mosley and the late Carolyn Reidy, former CEO of Simon & Schuster
National Book Foundation executive director Lisa Lucas said, “The National Book Awards events are a continued commitment to literature and its power to transform readers’ lives. Jason Reynolds embodies this commitment, and we are thrilled that he will host this year’s celebration.”
