Vivendi Buys Into Spain's Prisa
French media group Vivendi is taking a 7.6% stake in Spanish media conglomerate Prisa. Prisa is a owns El Pais newspaper, several radio and television networks, as well as Santillana Group, which is focused on edtech subscription solutions in Latin America.
In announcing the investment, Vivendi said it intended to become a "global leader in content, media and communications, while extending its access to the Spanish-speaking markets in Europe, Latin America and US Hispanics."
Vivendi has been also been aggressively acquiring shares of Lagardere, the parent company of Hachette, and now owns a 26.7% stake.
Last September, Prisa sold Santillana Spain’s K-12 education business to the Finnish group Sanoma for 465 million euros, and sold Santillana's trade publishing group to Penguin Random House in 2014.
