Hillary Clinton and Louise Penny Team Up on New Thriller
Bill Clinton is no longer the only member of his family writing thrillers with a bestselling novelist. Hi;lary Rodham Clinton has partnered with Louise Penny on State of Terror, which will be published jointly by St. Martin's Press and Simon & Schuster on October 12.
State of Terror, S&S said, marks "a unique collaboration by two long-time friends and thriller aficionados." It also follows on the heels of 2018's bestseller The President Is Missing, which Bill Clinton wrote with James Patterson.
In this deal, Simon & Schuster (which publishes Clinton's nonfiction) acquired world rights to the title along with St. Martin's Press (which publishes Penny). Lawyer Robert Barnett represented Clinton in the agreement, while Penny was represented by her agent, Dave Gernert at the Gernert Company. Jennifer Enderlin at SMP will be editing the novel.
The book, S&S said, follows a novice secretary of state who, after a series of terrorist attacks, must bring together a team to unravel "a scheme carefully designed to take advantage of an American government dangerously out of touch and out of power in the places where it counts the most." The publisher added that the book "features behind-the-scenes global drama informed by details only an insider could know."
