Kuan Tapped to Head Creative Capital
Creative Capital, a nonprofit that supports a wide variety of artists and creative disciplines, has named Christine Kuan its president and executive director effective March 22, 2021. Kuan will succeed Interim executive director Leslie Singer, who will now return to her former position as chief operating officer of Creative Capital.
Creative Capital is a member of Artist Relief, a multi-disciplinary coalition of seven artist organizations that launched last year to provide support to artists suffering from the impact of the pandemic. Kuan’s appointment follows a national executive search.
Before joining Creative Capital, Kuan was CEO and director of Sotheby’s Institute of Art New York. Prior to Sotheby’s, Kuan was chief curatorial officer and director of strategic partnerships at Artsy. and she has worked at Artstor and Oxford University Press in addition to teaching at Peking University, Rutgers University, and the University of Iowa. Kuan has an MFA in poetry from the University of Iowa.
“The pandemic and its fallout have been incredibly challenging for artists of all disciplines, and the work Creative Capital does is more important than ever,” Kuan said in a statement. “I look forward to working with the amazing Creative Capital team to help champion and sustain artists and their practices now and for years to come."
