Dalkey Literary Awards Shortlist Announced

The shortlist for this year’s Dalkey Literary Awards have been announced. The prizes are offered in two categories: Novel of the Year, which is worth €20,000, and Emerging Writer, worth €10,000. The winners will be announced as part of the Dalkey Book Festival which will run virtually from June18-20. 

The shortlisted authors / books in the 2021 Dalkey Literary Awards are:

Novel of the Year

  • Anne Enright, Actress (Norton)
  • Colum McCann, Apeirogon (Random House)
  • Donal Ryan, Strange Flowers (Penguin, June)
  • Hilary Fannin, The Weight of Love 
  • Maggie O’Farrell, Hamnet (Vintage)
  • Roddy Doyle, Love (Penguin)

Emerging Writer

  • Caoilinn Hughes, The Wild Laughter (Oneworld)
  • Dara McAnulty, Diary of a Young Naturalist (Milkweed, June)
  • Elaine Feeney, As You Were (Biblioasis, October)
  • Naoise Dolan, Exciting Times (Ecco)
  • Patrick Freyne, OK Let’s Do Your Stupid Idea (Penguin)
  • Seán Hewitt, Tongues of Fire
