2021 Brooklyn Public Library Literary Prize Shortlist Announced
The Brooklyn Public Library has announced the eight works shortlisted for fiction/poetry and nonfiction for its 2021 Brooklyn Public Library Literary Prize, which was established in collaboration with the Brooklyn Eagles. The works were selected by BPL librarians and staff from across the borough. On Thursday, October 21, at 7 p.m. ET, BPL will host a virtual shortlist celebration. The winners of the fiction and nonfiction award, who each receive a $5,000 prize, will be announced in early November at a virtual event.
This year's finalists are:
- The Wild Fox of Yemen by Threa Almontaser (Graywolf Press)
- Libertie by Kaitlyn Greenidge (Algonquin Books)
- Luster by Raven Leilani (Farrar, Straus and Giroux)
- Detransition, Baby by Torrey Peters (One World)
- How We Show Up: Reclaiming Family, Friendship, and Community by Mia Birdsong (Hachette Go)
- Pedro’s Theory: Reimagining the Promised Land by Marcos Gonsalez (Melville House)
- The Disordered Cosmos: A Journey into Dark Matter, Spacetime, and Dreams Deferred by Chanda Prescod-Weinstein (Bold Type Books)
- New Yorkers: A City and Its People in Our Time by Craig Taylor (W.W. Norton & Company)
