PRH Charts Changes in Workforce

New figures released by Penguin Random House shows the trade publisher making incremental progress in diversifying its workforce. The percentage of white people in non-warehouse jobs fell from 78% in the 2020 report to 74% in the most recent report. In 2016, 79% of new hires at the company were white, a percentage that fell to 48% in 2021 as of October 1.

Asian Americans represent 17% of new hires this year at the publisher, up from 9.9% last year and 8.8% five years ago. Hispanic employees accounted for 14% of new hires compared to 5.2% in 2016 and 11.3% last year. 15.9% of new hires last year were Black workers, up from 13.9% last year and 3.6% in 2016. Bi/multi-racial hires fell from 7.9% to 4.8%.
