'Poets & Writers' Names Four New Board Members
Poets & Writers has announced the election of Kofi Appenteng, Rochelle Riley, Kwame Spearman, and Yvonna Stevens to its board of directors.
Appenteng is president of the Africa-America Institute and currently serves on the board of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation.
Riley is director of arts and culture for the City of Detroit and co-founder of Letters to Black Girls. She is the author of the books That They Lived: African Americans Who Changed the World and The Burden: African Americans and the Enduring Impact of Slavery.
Spearman is CEO and co-owner of Denver-based independent bookstore chain the Tattered Cover, which Spearman and his business partner recently saved from shuttering.
Stevens is executive v-p and CFO of the International Youth Foundation. Stevens also serves on the boards of the Latin American Youth Center and the Global Health Council, as a mentor for the Obama Foundation Scholars program, and as the United States country representative of International Financial Reporting for Nonprofit Organizations.
Celia Currin and Maureen Egen, both of whom completed their terms as members of the Poets & Writers Board of Directors, have also been elected to the Emeritus Board.
