NYU to Host 'From Backlist to Bestseller' Panel
The NYU School of Professional Studies Center for Publishing, in conjunction with the NYU SPS Office of Alumni Relations, will present its next Media Talk, titled “From Backlist to Bestseller,” in a virtual format on Wednesday, February 16, at 6:00 p.m ET. The event will focus on the book's trajectory from an indie book to a bestseller.
The event will feature Robin Wall Kimmerer, author of Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teaching of Plants, along with Daniel Slager, her editor and CEO of Milkweed Editions, the publisher of the book. The panel, moderated by Publishers Weekly senior writer Andrew Albanese, will also focus on how the power of independent bookstores and word-of-mouth turned Braiding Sweetgrass into a publishing phenomenon. In addition, the conversation will feature Stephen Sparks, owner of Point Reyes Books, who will provide the point of view from the independent bookstore side.
